About CLOW Volunteers

In Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW), the children hear the exact same readings being heard by the adults, but from a lectionary written at a simpler level.  The format is essentially the same as in church.  CLOW is not Sunday School.  Children sit quietly for the readings and responses and then stand for the Gospel.  The leader then expands on the readings to help children grasp the main points.

Children are the future of our Church and must be nurtured in all ways.  By volunteering or allowing your child another option to participate, you are helping in the spiritual growth of the Church, now and forever.

The following two sections are two important positions that you can volunteer to fill.

Leader Position

A leader simply needs the desire to present the Word of God to children. Materials are provided and you will receive the week's readings with great presentation ideas already attached.

Are you more comfortable with one age group over another?  Children are divided into two stations:  (1) Preschool / Kindergarten and (2) first grade and up.

Room Monitor Position

You can imagine how a room full of preschoolers could be challenging for one leader.  In addition, Diocesan Safe Environment regulations require that there be at least two adults present.  There is no preparation required.  Your main responsibility is to be in the room as support for the leader, possibly reminding a restless child to sit quietly so that the liturgist can concentrate on teaching.  You will also receive the same materials as the leader does, in case you would like to familiarize yourself with the content that will be presented.

Becoming a Volunteer

If you choose to volunteer, you will need to be fingerprinted, have a background check performed, and attend a Protecting God's Children® workshop if you have not already done so.  You can learn about how to complete these prerequisites on our PGC page.

You would be scheduled once a month at either 9:30 a.m. or 11:15 a.m. Mass depending on your preference.  You would need to be there 15 minutes early to sign in.  Your service is counted as attending Mass, so you would not have to attend Mass twice on that Sunday.  The classrooms will always be set up and ready for you.

We would love for your help to bring the children of our parish closer to Christ.
