About Confirmation

The three Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist, together constitute the sacraments of Christian initiation, whose unity must be safeguarded. Confirmation perfects Baptismal grace; it is the sacrament that gives the Holy Spirit in order to root us more deeply in the divine filiation, incorporate us more firmly into Christ, strengthen our bond with the Church, associate us more closely with her mission, and help us bear witness to the Christian faith in words accompanied by deeds.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church Teaching on Confirmation

The Sacraments of Christian Initiation

  • Along with Baptism and Holy Eucharist, Confirmation completes our initiation into the Catholic Church (CCC 1285).

The Gift of the Holy Spirit

  • Confirmation brings a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit, like at Pentecost, to strengthen us in faith and mission (CCC 1287).

The Effects of Confirmation

  • Roots us deeper as children of God (CCC 1303)

  • Unites us more closely to Christ (CCC 1303)

  • Increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit (CCC 1303)

  • Strengthens our bond with the Church (CCC 1303)

  • Gives us courage to witness to our faith (CCC 1303)

A Permanent Mark

  • Leaves an indelible spiritual mark on the soul, signifying belonging to Christ forever (CCC 1304).

Minister & Rite of the Sacrament of Confirmation

  • The ordinary minister or Confirmation is the bishop, showing the Church’s unity (CCC 1312).

  • The essential Rite of Confirmation: Anointing with chrism oil and the words, “Be sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit.” (CCC 1300)

Confirmation for Youth

Bishop Earl Fernandes has announced that the age for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation will be lowered to 4th grade, beginning in fall 2025. This transition will unfold over the next four years. In response, we are transitioning our Confirmation Preparation to include both 9th and 10th grade students this year to ensure everyone currently eligible is well-prepared to receive the sacrament. We are also developing a strategic plan to align with the Bishop’s vision and will continue to keep families updated every step of the way. Stay tuned for registration details and join us as we form the next generation of saints—rooted in faith, strengthened by community, and built to last a lifetime. If your child is in 9th grade or older and ready to begin Confirmation preparation, please see the grade 9 - 12 grade registration and use the link below to register.
